To Get Healthy Depends On 5 Things
There are numerous books and authors on how to get healthy that explain that although good health is relatively simple – itâs just not that easy. I want my patients to think and appreciate that simplicity, but also understand that there is personal work involved.
If we were to use a tree as an analogy, we might ask âWhat does it take to not only keep a tree alive, but to more importantly, allow it to thriveâ?
Simple question, right? Everyone knows that a tree needs adequate sunlight, healthy soil and plenty of clean water. Itâs a simple recipe for a healthy tree.
Although different elements are required for our health as humans, the complexity of the recipe or better yet, the lack thereof, remains the same. Our health basically depends on 5 things:
- Proper Exercise
- Proper Nutrition
- Proper Rest & Recovery
- Positive Mental Health
- Proper Nerve Supply
When you add these 5 parts together the end result is inevitably HEALTH! The âitâs just not easyâ portion stems from some of the unnatural habits and lifestyles that an overwhelming majority of us are currently living on a day-to-day basis. Getting back to the analogy of the tree, if we were to alter that treeâs environment and place it in a desert terrain, the simple requirements for itâs health do not change, however, its ability to express and experience health will be challenged in its new and unnatural environment (not enough water, poor soil, too much sun or heat, etc.) The same is true for us as humans. Our simple requirements for health have not changed in millennia. What has changed and made experiencing health more difficult is our environment. We no longer live a natural lifestyle that is congruent with our original design. Although these habits are common, it is not natural to sit eight hours a day, drink soda by the gallon and exercise only sporadically, if at all. Therefore, the sooner we change our environment, our diets and ourselves (i.e., doing the work) and revert back to a more natural lifestyle we were designed to live, the sooner one might appreciate that Health really is simple!
