Degenerative Conditions & Poor Quality of Life
I was inspired to write this blog article on degenerative conditions after I watched a short video of Dr. Wayne Dyer endorsing the chiropractic profession. I wanted to expand on Dr. Dyer’s message as I have researched this topic extensively.
Indeed, we are in a health care crisis. Even though we, as Americans live longer than we did decades ago, the rate of degenerative illness (chronic diseases) continue to go up. The top chronic diseases in order of prevalence are cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke), cancer, chronic respiratory illnesses (COPD, asthma), diabetes, mental illness disorders (dementia, Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s), and musculoskeletal diseases (arthritis, osteoporosis). What this means is even though the average American is living longer, they have a poor quality of life in their later years. And yet, there is still a system in place that drives our culture to turn largely to drugs or surgery as an answer to solve the crisis.
This doesn’t mean that drugs or surgery aren’t necessary. There is a place for medications and surgery for crisis care. If a person has a body and mind that has reached the state of exhaustion and is beyond self-repair sometimes drugs and surgery are the only option. However, taking medications as a first line of defense for a health condition makes no sense because they are physiologically incompatible with the body and minds natural biochemistry. We don’t produce synthetic medications naturally nor does the body or mind utilize them in the normal biochemical reactions. This means they act as a chemical toxin, which means the person is destined to not only leave the problem unsolved but to create new ones.
So what is the solution?
The solution lies in adopting lifestyle practices that enhance the innate healing energy that is within all of us to help prevent a degenerative conditions from arising in the first place. Some of these practices include regular exercise and certainly eating healthier and strengthening your mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Discussing these in detail is beyond the scope of this blog, but I did want to touch on my area of expertise as a chiropractor.
Getting your nervous system and spine evaluated and adjusted by seeing a chiropractor regularly can be a vital component for you and your family. The brain requires constant nerve input in the form of movement from the body to function optimally and coordinate activities such as concentration, learning, emotions, movement, and organ function (including your immune system which is involved with healing). The spine is the main source of nerve input into the brain and allows this normal input to continue as long as it is moving properly and has good alignment. Chiropractors are experts in correcting spinal misalignments and nerve interference to provide normal input so the brain can function and heal optimally everyday. Therefore, it seems reasonable to add a chiropractor to your family’s health professional team and get your spine and nervous system functioning optimally. Chiropractors are spine and nervous system specialists, and having a healthy spine and nervous system are essential to attain and sustain a healthy body and mind and to help prevent degenerative conditions.
