Supplements for Optimal Health & Performance
Omega 3Â (Essential Fatty Acids)
One component of nutrition that deserves significant attention is essential fatty acids (EFAs). EFAs cannot be produced by the body and therefore they must come from the food we eat, hence the word âessential.â They are the main structural components of our cell membranes and keep our cell walls healthy by allowing nutrients to flow in and for toxins to flow out. The three main essential fatty acids are Omega 3, Omega 6 and Omega 9. Most of us consume enough Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids in our daily diets. However, we are often deficient in Omega 3 fatty acids that come from foods such as flax seeds and fish. Omega 3 fatty acids are known to help with cardiovascular, joint and skin health and help improve mood. Supplementing daily with an EFA capsule or liquid oil is essential to properly nourish your body.
Vitamin D-3
We get vitamin D3 from sunlight, but we have limited exposure to direct, unfiltered sunlight. Aging also contributes to the decline of the manufacture of Vitamin D-3 in the body. Cold weather as well as the fear of skin cancer has people covering up to avoid direct sunlight exposure but we need 10-20 minutes of direct, unfiltered sunlight on our skin, 3 or more times a week. Vitamin D-3 affects our cellular development, growth and cell communication, immune function, energy metabolism, muscle strength and coordination, some types of inflammatory response and bone development just to name a few. Given such functions, supplementation can be an important way to provide enough vitamin D-3 to support your optimal health.
